Hemsby - Friendly Home 18th April

Redgrave Won by 7 wickets

Hemsby 139 ( D. Prince 3 - 11, J. Dawson 2 - 10 )

Redgrave 140 - 3 ( W. Dwason 94* M. Williamson 15 )

Our early season friendly against Hemsby was played out in beautiful sunshine and gave some of us the chance to remember how to play the game before next weeks first league match. All the bowlers had a chance and early season honours went to Princey ( 3 - 11 ), knocking over some of the younger members of Hemsby's team. Set a total of 140 to win, Redgrave knocked them off within 25 overs, with Will Dawson making an unbeaten 94. Honoury 'Gissing moment' ought to go to Mark Williamson for his pre-match vice captaincy contributions.

Kirkley - League Home 25th April

Kirkley Won by 6 Runs

Kirkley 131 - 6 ( T. Musk 2 - 21, M. Williamson 2 - 31 )

Redgrave 125 ( W. Dawson 52, R. Tooke 21 )

Our first league match of the season ended rather tragically as we grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory. After winning the toss a good bowling performance kept Kirkley to a total of 131. A firey bowling spell from Jamie Shepherd and tight bowling from Trevor Musk was followed by spin twins Mark Williamson and Rob Tooke who kept the scoring rate in check and picked up some wickets along the way. Chasing only 132 to win Redgrave reached 74 -1 with Will Dawson scoring 52. However, the chase was undermined by regular wickets until in a tense and close finish the last wicket went down with 6 still required. Sorrows were drowned post game in the Cross Keys.

Burston - League Away 2nd May

Laxfield - Friendly Away 9th May

Redgrave Won by 23 Runs

Redgrave 212 ( W. Dawson 72, D. Tooke 60* )

Laxfield 189 all out ( W. Dawson 3 - 11, D. Tooke 2 - 21 )

The rain of Saturday relented to allow for an enjoyable game against Laxfield. Batting first Will Dawson got Redgrave off to a flying start, peppering the boundaries before falling for 72. Contributions of 23 from Rob Tooke, 60 from Dave Tooke and a cameo of 15 from debutant Marcus Green formed the basis of our final total of 212. When Laxfield batted a series of drop catches and good batting got them off to a solid start before Will Dawson picked up 3 - 11 and Dave Tooke picked up 2 - 21 to peg them back. Needing about 26 from the final over Laxfield ended up falling 23 short. An enjoyable game finished off nicely in the Laxfield Low House. The honoury 'Gissing Moment' goes to Sam Cremnitz for picking up a caught and bowled off a double bouncing bit of filth.

Caister - League Home 16th May

Redgrave Won by 5 Wickets

Caister 133 all out ( W. Dawson 4 - 38, M. Williamson 2 - 20 )

Redgrave 135 - 5 ( J. Shepherd 61* W. Dawson 24 )

After snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in our last league fixture we put in a good performance to get our first league win of the season. Fielding first we restricted Caister to 133 with Will Dawson bowling a quick spell to pick up 4 - 38 and there were two wickets a piece for Trevor Musk and Mark Williamson. Opening batsman R. Stokes was the mainstay of Caisters innings with 63 and was last man out in the last over of the innings to a fine tumbling catch by Sam Cremnitz at long on. A good 61* from James Shepherd and 24 from Will Dawson provided the cornerstone of our reply with an entertaining contribution from Alaister Shepherd also.

Bunwell - League Away 23rd May

Redgrave Won by 2 Wickets

Bunwell 105 ( D. Prince 3 - 19, T. Musk 3 - 33 )

Redgrave 106 - 8 ( J. Shepherd 43, T. Musk 26* )

A cracking game, played under a scorching sun, resulted in a narrow win for Redgrave. Fielding first with only ten men we got off to a good start with two run outs courtesy of quick fielding from Rob Kayley. Then regular wickets from Trevor Musk, Dave Prince and Mark Williamson saw Bunwell bowled out for 105 in only 25 and bit overs. We then somehow managed to contrive to lose eight wickets on the way to chasing down Bunwell's total. A good knock from James Shepherd looked like it was going to waste before an excellent knock from Trevor Musk with support from Andy Austin and Dave Prince saw us over the line. A man of the match performance from Mr Musk with 26* and 3 - 33.

Laxfield - Friendly Home 30th May

Redgrave Won by 1 Run

Redgrave 195 - 5 ( M. Williamson 69, D. Betts 63 )

Laxfield 194 ( D. Prince 6 - 34, W. Ward 2 - 25)

Our return fixture with Laxfield proved to be an even closer contest than our previous match earlier in the season. Winning the toss, Redgrave batted first and posted 195 which seemed a pretty reasonable total at the time. There were 60's from Mark Williamson ( whose 69 included some Pieterson-lite switch hits ) and Daniel Betts and a quick 28* from Jack Bell who was making his Redgrave debut. The Laxfield reply was build around their opener Auchterlone who cracked a rapid 106, and took a particular liking to some of the Redgrave bowling. With the total at 160 - 2 and only another 36 required to win, things didn't look too promising. However in a moment of inspiration, or desperation, Dave Prince brought himself onto bowl and 160 -2 quickly became 179 - 7 and then 194 - 9. With two still required to win and men all around the bat, Prince grabbed the last wicket to fall to end with figures of 7.5 - 0 - 34 - 6. A nod also to Willie Ward who took the other two wickets to fall in the last few overs.

Garboldisham - League Home 6th June

Redgrave Won by 132 Runs

Redgrave 194 for 9 ( R. Tooke 65, H. Rush 50 )

Laxfield 62 all out ( J. Shepherd 3 – 19, H. Rush 3 – 20 )

Redgrave Demolish Garboldisham in Local Clash

A return to league duties for Redgrave saw them thrash top-of-the-table Garboldisham by 132 runs on Sunday. Garboldisham won the toss and inserted Redgrave on a pitch that had some added spice due to overnight rain. Openers Mark Williamson and Henry Rush looked good, until Williamson was snaffled in the slips for 10. Will Dawson (29) then joined Rush, and together put on over 50 until the former skied a simple chance off the bowling of Hinds. This brought Rob Tooke to the crease, but Rush soon fell just as he passed his 50, and then James Shepherd fell first ball, swiftly followed by Alistair Shepherd (3) to leave Redgrave tottering on 118 for 5. The rest of the Redgrave lower order batted sensibly around Tooke, who bludgeoned his way to 65. Helpful contributions from Trevor Musk (11) and Andy Austin (7) left Andy Wright and Dave Prince to finish off the innings leaving Redgrave on a very respectable total of 194 for 9.

Knowing that they would have their work cut out against a strong Garboldisham batting line up bolstered by in form Australian pro Mitch Hinds, Redgrave’s opening duo of Musk and James Shepherd sought for early wickets. It was Shepherd who duly obliged, as he removed Goodwin (0) and Allen (4) in his first two overs. Ling was next to depart, bowled by Shepherd, leaving Garboldisham reeling on 19 for 3. The next two big wickets went to Trevor Musk, firstly making a mess of Hinds’ stumps, before having Cash (16) caught by Alistair Shepherd. At 32 for 5 there was no way back for Garboldisham as they capitulated to 62 all out. Henry Rush cleaned up the tail taking 3 wickets in his spell, Williamson chipped in with a run out and a caught and bowled to seal the game.

Bungay - League Away 27th June

Redgrave Won by 189 Runs

Redgrave’s fine second season in league cricket continued with a dominate win away to Bungay. Skipper, Prince, lost the toss as Redgrave were asked to bat first. Rush and Tooke got off to a brisk start as the boundaries took an early peppering. Rush (23) was dismissed in the seventh over, bringing Will Dawson to the crease. A 78 run partnership ended when Dawson was caught at cover for 28. Rob Tooke soared past fifty and along with Mark Williamson took the total towards 150. Tooke eventually fell for a sublime 72, but Williamson (39)continued to push the scoring on and along with Betts (17), and Musk (14) helped Redgrave post an impressive total of 212 for 6.

Bungay’s intentions were clear from the off as T. York smashed Dawson for twelve in the first over. His success was short lived though as Dawson gained revenge in his second over, leaving York’s stumps in a mess. A hostile spell of bowling was to follow as Dawson removed a further three batsman. Trevor Musk was keeping things tight from the other end, and picked up the wicket of Bedingfield for naught. At 49 for five Bungay were in disarray, and things didn’t get much better for them as they eventually stumbled their way to a total of 123, bowled out in the 34th over. Mark Williamson didn’t bowl with his usual control, but still ended up with three wickets, and the final wicket went to Dave Prince who seized the opportunity to bowl at the tail.

Redgrave 212 for 6 (R. Tooke 72, M. Williamson 39) beat Bungay 123 all out (W. Dawson 4 for 22, M. Williamson 3 for 37) by 89 runs.
